Wow. Some of you people really hate Al Gore. What I hate is the pollution of the rivers, the pollution of the ocean, the pollution of the groundwater, and the infestation of plastics in our waters. And those are things we COULD change – not easily, of course, but a good thing is worth doing even if it is difficult. The government may not respond to us, but corporations will, eventually. They will miss the mind-boggling profits if we don’t buy their products. That’s why they don’t want to have to label GM foods – then we would be able to decide what level of tampering with our food we each are willing to accept. The problem is, everyone has to eat something to survive. Have you ever tasted heirloom tomatoes? Those that have not been genetically modified? They are delicious, far better than the ones sold in grocery stores. And “volunteer” tomatoes appear on the other side of the garden, so it makes sense to me that “volunteer” Monsanto seeds would do the same thing. Of course, one might say that genetic modification began with Mendel’s peas. I just know that once many people got involved in eating fresh, local produce, suddenly “organic” fruits and vegetables started showing up in grocery stores. Sure, they cost a little more, and that is a problem, but the rise in price is probably to pay the lawyers when family farms are sued for things they have no control over. Oh, and let’s not forget the FDA raids where family farms are shut down, all the equipment taken, the farm animals killed and left lying in heaps, and sometimes the farmers are prosecuted – for farming WITHOUT using chemicals. There was an old saying, “Don’t eat your seed corn.” Well, we’re eating it.
